GhenGhen: ASUU-UNIOSUN clears waves, Finally Speaks on joining Nationwide Strike [Full Details]

In a letter received by Olofofo Uniosun from the Chairperson of ASUU-UNIOSUN; Dr Abanikanda, it was stated that UNIOSUN branch of ASUU has joined the nationwide strike.

In compliance with the pronouncement of strike action declared by ASUU on Sunday, 4th November 2018, the branch chairperson of Osun State University, Comrade, Dr M.O Abanikannda, officially declared the commencement of the strike action in his branch congress today Tuesday, 6th November, 2018.

In his remarks, the branch chairperson stated that the strike will be total, comprehensive and indefinite, emphasising that members of ASUU in uniosun shall henceforth withdraw their services by suspending all academic and official activities until its demands are met as described in the press statement made available to press by the president of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi on Sunday.

The demand included among others: Collapse of 2017/2018 renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, Failure to release operational licence to NUPEMCO, Needless proliferation of state universities, Non release of close to 2 Trillion Naira being arrears of revitalization fund for 2014 to 2018, Non disbursement of the forensic report on the disbursement of EAA covering the period of 2009 to 2017 to members, failure to pay arrears of shortfall in accrued salaries in universities that have been verified under PICA, increment in school fees as it applies to many state universities. Dr. Abanikannda further enlightened that the declaration is not a fight for members pockets, not a struggle to favour individuals or group of persons. It’s a battle for the soul of our universities and Nigeria’s educational system.
