Neville hails Man Utd's win over City but still urges for January signings
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has got behind his side following a sublime derby victory over bitter rivals City, but admits things still need freshening up at Old Trafford.
United took the game to City at the Etihad, rivaling Pep Guardiola's side and playing an effective game on the counter attack.
Neville feels the progress from United is evident, but feels his former employers must still look to bring in additional personnel next month.
'There's been many times when it's been painful. The players have taken a lot of criticism and rightly so,' Neville said in the Sky Sports studio after the match.
'But that's a different level today. I still think there's inconsistency but what it does give you is some hope.
'It will give them massive confidence but it doesn't change what they need to do in January.
'McTominay and Fred have done brilliantly but they can't do it week in, week out. Today we have to take our hats off to Man United.
'Today they were outstanding. It was a Man United performance. They showed personality. The big question mark now is they have to be consistent, they can't just do it once every three weeks.'
United move up to fifth place in the Premier League table as a result, five points behind Chelsea.
Adding to Neville's comments, another former United man Roy Keane was in agreement that additional signings are still needed.
'A lot has been mentioned about the middle of the park, they need a helping hand there,' said Keane.
'More options going forward. I don't think beating Spurs was a big deal but beating Man City can only give them confidence.'
