BamBam: CHECK OUT THE PROGRAMMES ACCREDITED BY NUC DURING THEIR LAST VISIT TO UNIOSUN

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola has received the report of the recently conducted accreditation and re-accreditation of some of academic programmes being offered by the University. The report was signed by the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Abubakar Rasheed who also congratulated the University for maintaining and upholding of academic standard.

NUC is the federal government academic regulatory commission charged with oversight functions which include ensuring quality assurance of all academic programmes offered in Nigerian universities and conducting of resource verification for the establishment of new programmes, monitoring outputs of teaching and learning and the conduct of accreditation of academic programmes in the Nigerian Universities.

The Commission visited Osun State University to accredit and re-accredit some of the university’s academic programmes between November and December 2016. During the visit, the NUC’s team of accreditors for the different academic programmes assessed based on five major indicators: curriculum development and academic standard, Staffing, Library resources, Funding, and Physical infrastructures/learning environment. In all, a total of eleven (11) programmes in the University namely;

B.Sc. Industrial Relations and Personnel Management
B.A Linguistic and Communication Studies
B. Agriculture
B.Sc. Nursing Science
B.Sc (B.Ed) Political Science
B.Sc (B.Ed) Economics
B.Sc (B.Ed) Mathematics
B.Sc (B.Ed) Biology
B.Sc (B.Ed) Physics
B.Sc (B.Ed) Chemistry
B.A(B.Ed) English Language

Apart from Nursing Science, which was just mature for accreditation, the remaining ten (10) programmes previously had full accreditation status, which lapsed in December 2016. The report revealed that all the programmes earned full accreditation status except B.Sc. Industrial Relations and Personnel Management, which earned interim accreditation status and would be revisited after two sessions.

A remarkable achievement is full accreditation status earned by B.Sc. Nursing Science programme. This achievement is uncommon in the history of Nigerian Universities running B.Sc. Nursing Science. The University has, therefore, concluded all arrangement to present the programme for accreditation by Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, the professional body vested with the powers to issue practicing license to all graduates of Nursing Science programme in Nigeria.

The Management of Osun State University appreciates the Government and people of State of Osun for the unflinching support towards building world class University as envisioned in the mission statement of Osun State University. While specifically thanking the Governor, State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the Deputy Governor, Otunba Grace Laoye-Tomori, the Speaker and Honourable members of House of Assembly, and the University Governing Council led by Malam Yusuf Ali for their immense contributions towards promoting academic standard and culture in the University, it is our fervent hope that all concerned stakeholders in UNIOSUN project would not relent on their efforts and commitments to the University.
