Placenta Accreta: Why Kim Kardashian Needs to Hire a Surrogate to Carry Her Third Child

After two high-risk pregnancies, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have decided to move forward with their decision to try surrogacy. That means that after giving birth to her 1-year-old son Saint and 4-year-old daughter

North West, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star has reportedly hired a
completely-anonymous surrogate to carry her third child.

"If the two doctors that I trust have told me it wouldn’t be safe for me to get pregnant again, I have to listen to that," Kim revealed last season on KUWTK "But because I don't know anyone that has been a surrogate or used one, I didn't really think about that as an option for me."

In recent months, baby fever has hit the Kardashian-West household hard. After Kim's traumatic robbery in Paris, the mom-of-two has revealed that her and Kanye's desire to expand their family has only grown stronger.

"I'd love nothing more than to expand my family and just know that I have this world at home that’s safe," Kim said in her confessional. But expanding their family poses many risks for the 36-year-old reality star.

To refresh your memory, Kim experienced a host of high-risk complications while carrying both of her babies, whom she shares with her 40-year-old husband, Kanye. In addition to struggling with infertility, Kim suffered from placenta accreta — a condition in which the placenta grows deeply into the uterus, making it unable to detach after delivery. A fully or partially-retained placenta can cause post-partum hemorrhage, fever, cramps, and inability to breastfeed.

In addition to placenta accreta, Kim also experienced preeclampsia while carrying her first child, North. Symptoms of preeclampsia include fluid retention and sky-rocketing blood pressure. Though Kim's previous tests for gestational diabetes have come back negative, Kim is also at high risk for becoming diabetic while pregnant.

"If for some reason I left this earth sooner than I really wanted to, then my kids would have a support system at home — so that I know that they would be okay if I wasn't here," Kim continued. "Kanye and I have always talked about having more kids. But after what I went through in Paris, the urgency is even greater."
