‘Resident Evil 7’ Return To Roots, No Quick-Time
The “Resident Evil 7” playable demo
that was announced during the “Sony” presentation at “E3” got people
really hyped for what seems to be a return to the franchise’s roots.
However, as the teaser went on, it became clear that it was much more
than that. Unfortunately, it seems like it doesn’t have anything to do
with the latest entry in the legendary series at all, but this doesn’t
mean that there are no details available.
Gamespot spoke with “Resident Evil 7” Producer Masachika Kawata to ask him what fans can actually expect from the game. In response, Kawata confirmed that there are several screenshots from the actual game found in the teaser. He also said that the teaser on the “PlayStation Network” is close to the kind of atmosphere that the game will have. The game will also be much bigger than the teaser conveys to players.
When asked about the combat, Kawata revealed that instead of the fast-paced, FPS feel of the last two numbered titles in the franchise, “RE7” will provide more diversity in how enemies are handled.
“It might actually be to your advantage to try to run away from combat at certain times, or use items against your enemies in a different way,” he said.
VG247 also revealed that there will be no quick-time events in “RE7.” Instead, the developers opted to return to the roots of the franchise, providing a more immersive horror experience. As a result, the game will be first-person in order to emphasize the claustrophobic and isolated atmosphere that fans are looking for.
Game director Koushi Nakanishi spoke to IGN about the issue as well.
“What’s the most appropriate way to bring the type of horror experience we’re trying to bring to players?” he asked. “The answer to us straightaway was that first-person perspective – it was the solution to what we were trying to do.”
“Resident Evil 6” and to a lesser extent, “Resident Evil 5” were criticized by fans for being too action-oriented in their approach to the gameplay. So much so in fact, players no longer consider these two games as part of the franchise.
