[INCREDIBLE] How woman rescued husband from crocodile’s jaws

A woman has risked her life as she literally wrestled her husband from the jaws of a crocodile .
This has netted her a special recognition from the Police .

Thirty - four- year - old Elizabeth Shintangu was doing laundry in the Kavango River near Rundu in the north - east while her husband, Matheus Kativa, was bathing in the river, according to regional police commander Johanna Ngondo .

“Suddenly, I felt as if a car had fallen on top of me, ’’ Kativa said.
“I screamed for help , and , the next thing I saw was my wife on top of the reptile, fighting it.

“Then it let go of me , but by that time, my lower arm had been severed ,’’ the 47 - year old farmer added.

Before the couple had time to swim back to the river bank , the crocodile returned and grabbed Kativa again.
“The water was all red with blood, and I saw his face as he waved good-bye ,’’ Shintangu said.

However, she refused to let go and Shintangu pulled her husband back from the crocodile ’s jaws .

The killer reptile was resilient, as it launched a third attack.
Shintangu’ s screams alerted people from a nearby village ; they helped in pulling the couple out of the river.

Reports say that attacks by crocodiles and hippopotamuses are not unusual in that region of Namibia where many residents depend on the river for drinking water, fishing and other uses . (dpa /NAN )
