Ballon d’Or 2018: Checkout where the top 20 players ranked and their points [You won't believe where Messi's at]
It is no longer news that Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder Luka Modric is the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner, and has ended the 10-year duopoly of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Modric, 33, won his third successive Champions League in May before helping Croatia to a first World Cup final.
Former Brazil and AC Milan forward Kaka, in 2007, was the last player other than Messi or Ronaldo to win it.
Ronaldo, who joined Juventus from Real Madrid in the summer, came second.
Barcelona forward Messi finished fifth, with Atletico Madrid frontman Antoine Griezmann and PSG attacker Kylian Mbappe – both of whom won the World Cup with France – third and fourth respectively.
Manchester City has two players in the top 30 of this year’s Ballon d’Or rankings. City’s best-placed player is Kevin De Bruyne who cracked the top 10 in 9th place, nestled in between fellow Premier League stars Eden Hazard and Harry Kane.
The Blues’ other representative is Sergio Aguero who finished in 16th place, behind Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba but ahead of the likes of Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.
