Sineli Telecoms Launched Detty December eSIM Initiative to Support Travellers
Sineli Telecoms, a global travel-tech company, launched a seasonal connectivity initiative aimed at easing mobile data challenges during the December peak travel period, commonly referred to as Detty December.
As international travel volumes increased during the festive season, travellers frequently encountered connectivity issues upon arrival, including high roaming costs, unreliable public Wi-Fi, and delays associated with purchasing physical SIM cards.
According to Ayo Afonja, Founder and CEO of Sineli Telecoms, the initiative was developed to address a recurring and widely reported travel pain point.
“December is one of the busiest travel periods globally, and it consistently exposes how difficult it can be for travellers to stay connected immediately after landing,” Afonja said. “Reliable connectivity has become a basic travel expectation, yet it is still not guaranteed in many destinations.”
As part of the initiative, Sineli offered complimentary 1GB eSIM data packages, provided at no cost, to up to 100 travellers during the December travel season. This enabled recipients to access mobile data immediately upon arrival without relying on roaming plans or physical SIM cards.
Sineli’s service was delivered through eSIM technology, which allows mobile data to be activated digitally, often before departure. At the time of the initiative, the company supported connectivity across more than 170 countries, enabling travellers to remain connected across multiple destinations using a single digital solution.
Afonja noted that the initiative was intended as a practical response to a seasonal travel challenge rather than a traditional marketing campaign.
“If we can remove one point of friction during peak travel, that improves the overall travel experience,” he added.
The initiative reflected a growing shift within the travel-tech sector, where mobile connectivity is increasingly regarded as essential travel infrastructure rather than an optional add-on.
As global travel continues to rebound and peak travel periods become more concentrated, solutions that simplify digital connectivity are expected to play an increasingly important role in shaping the traveller experience.
