Just days after President Buhari got enmeshed in a plagiarism scandal. reports have it that the All Progressives Congress, APC has allegedly been threatened with a lawsuit by the Rex Institute

Over the issue of plagiarizing its ‘Next Level’ Logo, it appears the Rex Institute would have none of it and is ready to fight tooth and nail even if it involves involving a messy court case

President Buhari who allegedly stole the ‘Next Level’ logo from Rex Institute for his recently launched 2019 presidential campaign which he titled ‘Next Level’ had stated that “the past few years have put us in good stead to trudge on the Next Level of building an even stronger nation for our people”., Nigerians were left confused and disappointed that the ‘Next level’ logo on his re-election campaign has a striking feature with that of Rex Institute which is the creative elongation of the ‘x’ in ‘next’

In the letter dated November 19, 2018 and addressed to the National Legal Adviser at 40 Blantyre Cres. Wuse 2 Abuja Nigeria, the APC were told to immediately stop any use of the logo and make every effort to recall and destroy all materials which have already been disseminated.

The letter obtained by Daily Post reads;

“Dear Sir Without prejudice, it has come to our attention that the All Progressives Congress Party of Nigeria has stolen the intellectual property right of our client, The Rex Institute.

“As you can see from the attached visuals, the logo your Party has just unveiled and which is being promoted by the Leader of the Party and the President of Nigeria on his Twitter feed is a direct copy of that of our client, with just a small colour change in the arrow.

“However, every other element from the name, font and design is identical. In fact, in my entire legal career, I have never seen such a blatant piece of plagiarism.

“We, therefore, demand that you immediately cease and desist in any use of the logo and make every effort to recall and destroy all materials which have already been disseminated.

“Failure to do so within 7 days will leave our client with no other option but to seek full legal redress via the Nigerian Courts. I look forward to your immediate reply. Yours faithfully Sue Lavache Attorney at Law.”

The ‘Next level’ plan is a project of the Winthrop University-School Partnership Network in collaboration with Fort Mill School District (York 4), Lancaster County School District, and Rock Hill School District (York 3). It is a Professional Development Program grant funded by the US Department of Education and administered through the Office of English Learner Aquisition (OELA), PR/Award # T365Z160278.

As at the time of this report, the APC is yet to react to the reports. It may be recalled that it was the former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, who first disclosed publicly that President Muhammadu Buhari and his campaign organization “stole” the logo from a thesis authored by Kelly Costner, an Associate Professor of Winthrop University in South Carolina, USA leading to the attention the issue has attained so far.
